To: NCR Tower Admins.
We have an NCR Tower 600.......and a problem! It no longer allows users to
log on. Not root. Not sa. Not startup. No one!
We're not sure, but a best guess is that the /etc/passwd file is trashed.
The system does boot, and the Login prompt is displayed, but still no one
can log in.
Problem 2: We were going to restore from tape, but the samenus aren't
accessible and, errr, we lost the INSTALL tape so we can't install.
We can use the startup menu to load from disk, so I know the disk is there.
Are the In-Service Diagnostics somewhere on disk where I can load it? Or,
how do I get root logged in? (I tried to load /ncrm/diag but that aborted.)
