I recently upgraded wrangler (32/400, 4Mb, HPSIO-8, internal SCSI) from Vr2 to Vr3 and applied the update to bring it to 3.00.01. There have been a number of mysterious phenomenae, most of which I have either guessed at or decided to live with (compiler whining about code it wrote, etc.). There's one that has me completely stumped. There's a 68881 math processor in wrangler and I was able to use it. The power up formware reports that it finds the FPP but when the full system gets on its feet sysdef -o reports that it's not present. I've RTFM, maybe too much because I can't find anything I'm supposed to have enabled, etc. I did replace the clock jumper (correctly) because the one on it seemed loose and I made sure the chip was well seated in its socket. Is there something obvious or subtle that I'm missing? The only difference in hardware configuration since the FPP was last seen was the removal of a second HPSIO-8 to make room for an ethernet card (not yet installed). Is there some special configuration option that I have not set or something I need to do? I thought that Vr2 just sort of "knew" the FPP was there, but the machine came with Vr2 already configured. The previous owner says that Vr3 should "know" too. Apologies if this has been covered times before, I'm a relative newcomer to the group (and to Towers).
