Hello all. I am new to this group, I never knew it existed until now. Please
forgive me if these questions have been asked many times before.
I juse got a Tower(xp?) from the company my neighbor works for. They are
buying some VAXs and they were practically giving these away. So we each
got a Tower, Expansion unit, and a couple of terminals. I know PCs in and
out but am fairly new to unix and unix machines. I know the Tower has a 5 "
hard drive(?mb) streaming tape and a 5 1/4 floppy drive. The expansion unit
has an 8" hard drive(?mb). There are 8 tty "ports" and when I was cleaning
out the cabinets (YUK!) I noticed one full memory(?) card and one with only
1 row of chips.
Now the fun part. No one at his office seems to have complete documentation.
Each machine has unix(supposedly) and the company software. I can't get to
unix!!!
I'm working on that part myself, what I need to know is:
1) Any ideas on the size of the drives?
2) Any ideas on the amount of memory?
3) How can I boot from unix?
4) Where can I get the/an operating system to reinstall or can I just remove
his company software?
5) What kind of batteries do these things take? I have seen it but it does
not look familiar.
6) Is this a 16 or 32 bit machine?
7) Is there a publication that would help? Where could I get Manuals?
8) Can it do graphics? Run X-windows and the like?
9) I'm full of questions ain't I ?
I would RTFM if I could find them.
*ANY* help would be GREATLY appriciated.
