A while ago, I upgraded our TOWER32/600 from Tower Unix 1.03.08 to Tower Unix 3.00.01. I was very unpleasantly surprised to find that the applications installed on the system were not "seen" by the system as applications because they were not installed as applications from the VA menus after the upgrade, but rather were copied onto the system from cpio or tar tapes(I don't remember which) that were made prior to the upgrade. Because the system didn't recognize that applications were installed, it wouldn't allow me to add applications users to the system. I managed to salvage enough of the old "sa" type menus to set up the applications users, but now would like to be able to use "va" type menus for applications that are already on the system, as well as an INFORMIX application that I am working on, and some shell scripts that user-types with no interest in the shell would like access to. As far as I can tell from "TFM's" that I have available, the only way to accomplish this is to package the stuff up with an installation script, title line file, etc., copy them to tapes, and re-install them. Sounds like a lot of work to me - besides, I tried it, and didn't get too far. Has anyone else run into this problem and found a quicker, easier way to solve it? If no, then does anyone have any sample files that s/he would be willing to share? Please e-mail responses to rebec@xanth.cs.odu.edu unless you feel there would be enough interest in this topic to post replies here. -- later--rebec ------------ Rebecca Chappell (804)671-7413 Pioneer Title rebec@xanth.cs.odu.edu
