[comp.sys.ncr] Rootfs problem.

darrell@eeocdt.UUCP (Darrell Tschakert) (06/10/91)

Good afternoon.

One of my fellow workers asked my to post the following query. I hope
that someone can help him.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
NCR O/S ROOT FILESYSTEM NOMENCLATURE INQUIRY:
In normal installation of NCR O/S 2.01+ or 2.00+ for NCR Tower-32 systems,
the root filesystem is normally designated /dev/dsk/0s1. However, if a
full-system cpio backup is restored during "Phase Two" by selecting "Perform
File System Maintenance" using the command
	 "cpio -idmuvcVT /dev/tape"
the root filesystem will become permanently designated "/dev/rootfs"
(which is the temporary name for the unix.sti then in use). This can
be changed temporarily with "setmnt" but reverts after making Unix.
QUERY: How can root filesystem be permanently restored to /dev/dsk/0s1 without
full system reload (so that, for example, "df" reports for /dev/dsk/0s1 rather
than /dev/rootfs).
