I've had tremendous success with many kinds of fish just chucking in a bit of dry cat food once a day. Of course, the cats get a bit tense when they catch me robbing their dish, but the food has balanced nutrition, and it costs about 1/20th the price of store bought fish food, by weight. Also, the bigger and sturdier pieces give the fish something to worry at, and don't tend to get lost or sucked into the filter like flake food does. Probably not the best choice for really tiny fish, but it does tend to dissolve into crumbs even the little guys can manage, after while. Since the inside cat just now is an exceptionally cute kitten (by temperment destined to be skinned out and made into a fur muff any day now) rescued from the "humane" society people, the current crop of fish is dining on kitten food, which seems to have more of a crust or oil coating, but it is equally successful. I don't think I'd dare try this in a marine aquarium, but you may be braver than I. -- Again, my opinions, not the account furnishers'. xanthian@well.sf.ca.us xanthian@ads.com (Kent Paul Dolan) Kent, the (bionic) man from xanth, now available as a build-a-xanthian kit at better toy stores near you.
