I met George Thornally, our forum leader at a user goup demo in Monterey that I gave about RagTime. We have a RagTime folder as well in the DTP forum, since many people think RagTime belongs there. I will add here some explanations about groupware qualities of RagTime as well as a short description of the product. Thanks George for your notes. Yes, RagTime is able to serve some groupware aspects very well. There are two aspects in RagTime to be mentioned. 1. RagTime allows work groups who do different work at different workstations to still share the same file format, since RagTime fits the needs of most Spreadsheet applications as well as Word Processing or DTP tasks. So the work in a group of mixed tasks stays transparent. 2. RagTime allows connected files to be simultaneously accessed by many users. For example an address list inside a RagTime document can be linked to several different other documents residing on different workstations in the group. 3. Files can be opened by more then one user at the time. Te first user gets the file for read and write, the others get it as a copy for reading only or for "save as" under a different name. Thus a work group can share documents and information easyly. These features work with any file sharing environment like Apple Share File Servers or Tops shared volumes. RagTime 3, short description ---------------------------- RagTime 3 is a very versatile multi purpose application, that brings a new paradigm of desk top document processing to the Macintosh. Imagine you had a layout environment like PageMaker for example, but much easier to operate, and then inside these pages, right on the pages: 1. Full featured spreadsheet areas, life! These spreadsheet areas (frames) surpass any other stand alone spreadsheet in its layout capabilities. We have full word processing inside the spreadsheet cells for example. Linked spreadsheet frames and likned documents for database like applications. 2. Full featured business graphic areas right on the pages,linked to the spreadsheet areas. 4. Picture frames, with a scanning module right there. Scan pictures directly into your pages. All this is agin life and right on the pages of your documents. It is like having Excell running inside PageMaker but just much better. RagTime is designed for the office use.
