[comp.groupware] Bibliographies on groupware

ask@wam.umd.edu (Andrew S. Katz) (09/28/90)

I would appreciate any information about bibliographies on groupware.
If anyone has a file with such I would love a copy. Even references
to any articles/books would be nice.

My particular area of interest is in human-computer communication and
group decisionmaking.

From my view point, the interface between group decision making
and groupware is still quite rough and irregular.
Group decision making research people has a long history of
independent research. Now there is increasing effort to merge these
two different origin research field.
We can see more clarified interface next year. In September 1991,
there will be 'IFIP WG8.3/WG8.4 conference' in Great Britain. WG8.3
is a decision making system working group and WG8.4 is an office system
working group.

 There are three areas in so-called computer-based desicion making;
social factors, computer environment for decision making.

On social factors, there are independent journals and
conferences on decision making. It is beyond my ability to describe.

On computer environment and observation in computer decison making,
Univ. of Arizona and Univ. of Michigan are famous on particulary
realtime based decision making. It should be also noted that MCC and
Xerox are famous in general emphasis on wide applications in CSCW.

On voting, within ACM-related field, I noticed only two major voting system
research players these years.
Prof. A.B. Urkens in Stevens Tech Insitute discussed choice theory
in 'Social Choice Theory and Distributed Decision Making' in COIS'88.
Prof. H. Garcia-Molia in Princeton University is also famous
in distribued decision making.
His work is more theritical one than I expected. However, readers may be
interested in his work.
Refereces are:
'The vulnerability of voting assignments"(D. Barbara
 & H. Garcia-Molina, ACM Trans. on Computer Systems, Vol.4, No.3, August 1986)
 'The reliability of voting mechanisms'(D. Barbara & H. Garcia-Molina,
IEEE Transactions on Computers, Vol.C-36, No.10, October 1987)
 'How to assign votes in a distributed system"(H. Garcia-Molina & D. Barbara,
 JACM, Vo.32, No.4, 1985)

If readers may be interested in genearal trend in groupware,
the following list of references may be helpful.
And people on net may add other issues beyond my ability.
