Title, Location, and Dates

     The First Moscow International Workshop on Human-Computer 
     Interaction, Moscow, August 5-8, 1991

Purpose

     Our goal is to bring together HCI researchers and practitioners 
     from the Soviet Union, the United States and other countries so 
     that all may exchange ideas, achievements and get to know each 
     other.

Format

     The workshop will be four days: two days for research and 
     development reports, a day for meeting with Soviet professionals 
     and visiting institutes, and a half day each for live 
     demonstrations and open forum discussion.  Attendance will be 
     limited to 50 from the Soviet Union and 50 from the United States 
     and other countries, to leave ample time for discussion and 
     informal meeting.  For those able to remain after the workshop, 
     there will be optional cultural and tourist activities. 

Topics

     Research, development, applications and survey papers are invited 
     in a wide range of HCI areas, including, but not limited to:

          theory
          scientific visualization
          transfer of learning
          human factors research
          interface-usability testing
          rapid prototyping and end-user programming
          user-interface development tools
          legal protection of interfaces
          help systems
          intelligent agents
          multi-user interfaces
          verbal and non-verbal sound I/O
          hypertext and hypermedia
          non-traditional I/O
          natural language I/O
          cross-cultural considerations
          group interfaces (CSCW)
          stylus input and data types

Deadlines

     December 5, 1990      official call for papers
     ASAP                  notify us of intention to submit a paper
     March 15, 1991        submit 5 copies of paper
     May 1, 1991           notification of acceptance
     June 1, 1991          distribution of official invitation 
                           and deadline for camera-ready copy
     August 4, 1991        arrival of participants
     August 9-11, 1991     departure

Submission

     Papers should be no more than 4,000 words, in English or Russian.

     Camera-ready copy of accepted papers will be required by June 1, 
     1991, and participants are welcome to bring computer 
     demonstration or video tape their work (PAL is preferred, but 
     NTSC is okay).

     The workshop will be sponsored by the International Centre for 
     Scientific and Technical Information and California State 
     University at Dominguez Hills with the cooperation of SIGCHI, the 
     Special Interest Group for Computer-Human Interaction of the 
     Association for Computing Machinery.
