[comp.groupware] group membership

We've had some discussion about how groups are supposed
to work--but not all groups are the same.

Any one have comments about differences in interaction
depending on the construction of the group?

Much of the discussion I've seen looks at what might be
called "peer groups", where all the members are on equal
footing and are expected or, at least, allowed to participate
equally.

What about situations with a "boss" or those where there
is someone like a seminar leader?

What about situations where some people are allowed to observe
but not talk?
