[comp.groupware] TEAMate UNIX BBS

[seems to be some more interest so I thought I'd post again]

TEAMate is a commercial product that has been sold since
1985. Our market is government, corporations and
information providers. TEAMate is currently available
for SUN, AT&T 3B, IBM RS/6000, HP-UX, DEC (ULTRIX) and
the 386/486 Intel platforms. Prices start at $1500 for
the Intel platform (4 user license with content retrieval)
and go up to $25,000 (we're not so big with the hobbyist
market for this version).

TEAMate uses an "outline" with topics as the basic way of
organizing information (a topic can be directly mapped to a
news group). A topic in TEAMate can have one or more
"entries" (pieces of data). An entry has many components
including a piece of text, multiple attachments, keywords,
author, read-by-list, etc., etc. The outline can be created
interactively and reorganized interactively (just point at a
topic and say move, all subtopics will go along).

TEAMate has its own mail system with gateways.

Facilities exist for various types of "conferences" including
asynch (deferred and chat types).

Full content indexing is supported as is a transaction
format for loading/unloading data.

The full screen TEAMate interface is driven by screens which
may be customized (the screen "source" is delivered). In
general TEAMate is very open so new commands can be added,
etc.

We are working on the interface between news and TEAMate so
that newsgroups can be mapped to TEAMate topics and new
postings and mail handled. It is not difficult as we have
the transaction processor so we can handle pretty easily,
however, commercial pressures are holding us back at the
moment (customers want other things and are willing to
pay). We anticipate having it done by the end of June.

We have sales materials that I'd be pleased to send out if
you send me a mailing address or you can just call up our
demo system if you'd like. To access the demo system call
(213) 318-5302 (8N1) use VT100 emulation and the login of
public (no password required).
