TDRS-2, originally scheduled to be launched from STS-8, now scheduled to launch in August, has been removed from that flight's manifest, because NASA has as yet failed to figure out why the IUS that was attached to TDRS-1 malfunctioned, sending the satellite into an errant orbit. The loss of TDRS-2 will hamper STS-9's cargo, Spacelab, in that the Spacelab planners had relied on the two satellites to provide a continuous source of transmission to the Earth.
