I'm looking for references on how groups of people work together when
preparing a manuscript. This could include design, editing, revision,
proofing, reviewing, etc.
The goal here is to eventually get enough ideas about how people work
together to provide some intelligent support for groups of writers,
using computers (i.e. groupware - hence, please note the followup).

My former colleagues at Carnegie Mellon University have been doing research in computers and writing for many years. David Kaufer, kaufer+@andrew.cmu.edu, is the English-professor knowledge; and Christine Neuwirth, cmn+@andrew.cmu.edu, is the more computer knowledge person. Another leader in the field is John Smith at Univ. of North Carolina.
