[comp.lang.perl] HP/UX and -O on eval.c

wrwalke@uunet.uu.net (William Walker) (02/03/90)

SIGH ....

yes, we hashed this one out before. on the hp9000 series 800, it takes
upward of 25Meg to optimize eval.c. i have 64 Meg of memory and around
180Meg of swap. this is under 3.10 of hp/ux. our 7.0 tapes were
recalled before shipment due to a problem with multi-volume fbackups.
you didn't say whether you had a 300 or 800 series HP. the OS version
numbers match now for both series despite different processors.

once again... eval.c is a hog, but the "make" takes around 40 minutes on
my 9000/850. it is a kick-butt machine. HP's cc is NOT broken, just tries
to be a bit too efficient at times.
