Any Perl hackers out there just itching for an opportunity to use their programming talents? The deal is this: The Oracle (see the "Usenet Oracularities" postings in rec.humor) collects ratings on the posted Oracularities. Now, I've just been saving these in a huge mail folder expecting to use this opportunity to learn Perl and write a script to process the ratings and generate some sort of statistics on them. However, now it doesn't look like I'll have time to do this for a couple of months, but it really shouldn't be put off much longer. So ... with the apparent eagerness of Perl cognizants to post code, I thought I'd ask here if anyone wanted to volunteer for the (probably quite easy, if you know what you're doing) project and thusly join the Oracle's "priesthood". A typical "vote" looks like this: From joe_user@nothere.com Sun Mar 4 20:31:09 1990 Received: from nothere.com by iuvax.cs.indiana.edu with SMTP (5.61+/1.4jsm) id AA18799; Sun, 4 Mar 90 20:31:09 -0500 Date: Sun, 4 Mar 90 17:35:22 PST From: joe_user@nothere.com (Joe) Message-Id: <9003050135.AA06186@nothere.com> To: oracle-vote@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu Subject: Here's my ratings ... Status: RO 132 2 5 5 4 5 5 1 5 4 5 There's the volume # (132) and ten numbers from 1-5 as the ratings. Some kind of per volume statistics are needed. It'd be nice to have some record of who voted on which volumes, too -- if only to check that someone didn't vote twice. If anyone's interested drop me a note. Preferably before Wed 7 Mar since I'll be away from then until Mon 19 Mar. from the brain of Stephen Kinzler /o>\ kinzler@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu - an organ with a mind of its own \<o/ {ames, rutgers}!iuvax!kinzler
