[comp.lang.perl] Configure problems after patch9..12

jv@mhres.mh.nl (Johan Vromans) (03/04/90)

I encountered two configure problems after upgrading to pl12.

 1. The check for 'volatile' does not take the compiler flags into
account. Most notably, "gcc" supports volatile, "gcc -traditional"
    does not.
This may also apply to other test-programs.

 2. Configure determines a list of libraries to include. This list is
offered as default answer to the question. This will be the
definite answer if Configure is run with '-d' option. The value
read in from config.sh should be used instead.
This problem probably existed before this patch, but nevertheless.

Add one more gcc-related problem: it assumed that rename() exists on telotech
(haven't built perl here on ncoast yet) when I used gcc, but not when I used
cc (pcc).

I also encountered the -lPW/fatal() bug.

(System: Altos 486/1000 running Altos System V 5.3eT0. Call it System V
release 3.1.)
