Hello, A local user needs to write an analysis of a programming language for a course. The instructor specifically eliminated commonly known languages like C. Pascal, Fortran and the like. He listed among acceptable languages AWK, sed and UNIX shell languages. I recommend she do her paper on perl since it isn't a language much used here and might thus be an interesting change of pace for both instructor and student. The problem is references. I have given her a copy of the manual and recent issues of UNIX Review which have a nice tutorial. What we don't seem to be able to locate is any more indepth discussions. What is specifically needed is a technical analysis of the advantages and disadvantages (I'm sure there aren't any :-) of the language. A book would be an acceptable source but there don't seem to be any available yet (hi Larry :-). Any references would be appreciated. Thanks --Frank -- Frank W.
