I've installed a new version of Jinx and Cterm (version 2.1) on our archiver.
Cterm allows you to use (almost all) curses-facilities in Perl applications.
Jinx is a system for manipulating simple databases.
It is easy to use but has powerful relational facilities as well.
Because Jinx was written in Perl, it has no arbitrary limits.
New features in 2.1 are:
-- Jinx now accepts hjkl-keys as alternatives for arrow-keys in command mode,
and Control-BPNF-keys as alternatives for arrow-keys in any mode.
This should make Jinx usable on dumb terminals and/or any curses.
-- Jinx now has a facility to present "raw data" aligned in neat columns.
The necessary widths are computed by Jinx.
-- Start-up time for an undumped Jinx is reduced.
-- The naming of some commands ('quit','exit') was confusing.
Some of the 'quit' commands are renamed to 'finish'.
-- The J-tools (Jjoin,Jlist,Jproject,Jreport,Jsort) can now be installed
in undumped form. A generic script 'Jtools' is dumped. The J-tools
are just links to the dumped generic script.
-- Cterm now allows the perl-application to control which user-inputs are
to be interpreted as CURSOR-LEFT and CURSOR-RIGHT in local edit mode.
How to get it:
Jinx.2.1 requires cterm.2.1. Jinx and cterm are available from our
archive server archive.cs.ruu.nl (131.211.80.5) by ftp and email.
If you have ftp, get 'cterm.shar.Z' and 'jinx.shar.Z' from directory 'pub/UNIX'.
If not, send a message to 'mail-server@cs.ruu.nl' containing the next 4 lines:

send UNIX/cterm.shar
send UNIX/jinx.shar
end
The mail-server will send you the compressed, uuencoded stuff.
Jinx+tools+man+doc is about 4700 lines, (compressed 64 KB).
A jinx tutorial (in LaTeX) is included in the package.
A PostScript version is available in 'UNIX/jinx.ps' in our archive.
