[comp.lang.perl] Perl for the Macintosh?

allbery@NCoast.ORG (Brandon S. Allbery KB8JRR) (02/09/91)

As quoted from <9473@dog.ee.lbl.gov> by beard@ux5.lbl.gov (Patrick C Beard):
+---------------
| Has anybody done a port of perl to the Macintosh? Either for MPW or
| THINK C would be fine.
+---------------

Perl would only make sense running under the MPW shell (unless THINK C now has
such a shell), so I'd look for an MPW C implementation. Not that I know of
any, but it shouldn't be that hard to port it for the MPW shell because that
supports a Unix-oid line interface. (Think of MPW as a port of PWB to the
Mac, for those of you not familiar with it. There are a number of similar-
ities, including the "shell" as a sort of cross between sh and csh with some
Mac-isms thrown in.)

(Perl with a GUI interface... the mind boggles. ;-)
