[comp.lang.perl] Socket stuff

rahardj@ccu.umanitoba.ca (Budi Rahardjo) (02/12/91)

Any plan on adding socket stuff on MSDOS-perl ?
With the availability of SLIP, PPP, KA9Q stuff, and packet
drivers (source code too) ... this is a reasonable request :-)

First of all, there's no official plan on MS-DOS at all. MS-DOS
development has been done by folks other than Larry Wall and has been
distributed by him. I did the last round of enhancements.

The big problem with the DOS version right now is lack of memory. Adding
features that support only a few users will use even more memory.
I was working on a custom overlay scheme but I'm too busy right now to
do anything on it.

Sockets are at least second in priority: surely dbm is first.

Larry hasn't released my perl source code yet. I'll e-mail the patches
to anyone who's interested in doing work on MS-DOS perl.
