Just a warning to everyone anxious to grab perl 4.0. I installed it yesterday (on a sun4 running SunOs 4.1), and things started breaking. There's nothing funny about our installation, and I used the same config.sh as for 3.44. Specifically, perl -d on anything resulted in a seg-fault, as did Tom Christiansen's makewhatis (from his man package). I didn't track it down further. (Too many programs are written in perl around here..) This is not a very useful message, but it may help people who are about to spend hours UUCP'ing it. I suggest you wait for the next patch. -- Steven grady@fx.com

I have perl4.0 running on Sun4s running SunOS4.1 and SunOS4.1.1 ok. I tried our Sun3/50 workstations (running SunOS4.1) and some of the tests failed. The errors seemed to be due to information being overwritten by the parser (mainly whilst doing compile time optimisations as far as I could tell). I have sent a fuller report to Larry to see what he thinks but I thought I'd ask the perl community if anyone else has had problems with this setup? If you did and fixed them I'd be *very* pleased to know how.. Mark ps. FYI. Anyone following the `A-W not got copies the The Book' saga... A-W in the UK have got The Book, though they only had 4 copies left last week when I got mine! 8*) Don't know how I managed without it!
