[comp.lang.perl] Perl fatal error

jas@ISI.EDU (Jeff Sullivan) (04/18/91)

I keep getting this error:

RUN-TIME ERROR R6009
-Not enough space for environment

I can make it go away by playing with High Memory with QEMM to free up
about 5K more memory, but then other stuff won't run. Is there any
other way to fix this?

The thing that really confuses me is that the program isn't that big.
It seems that any substantial perl program in MSDOS is impossible.

I'm using 3.0.1.5PL18. I tries the newer version on SIMTEL20, but it
wanted to create a swap file when it shelled out, and the name it
tried to create was 9 characters long (Illegal DOS filename), which
caused it to perpetually hang.

Some help most appreciated.
