[comp.lang.perl] Does anyone here use UNDUMP?

jb3o+@andrew.cmu.edu (Jon Allen Boone) (05/23/91)

Perhaps my messag didn't make it through, but I'm aghast that
not a single person has responded to my queries about undump.
Certainly, I would have expected someone to say "READ THE FAQ" - to
which I would reply: I already have. That's why I'm looking for help.
I've got a psuedo-working version of undump and I need help figuring
out why it doesn't work. My first query was to see if I had the wrong
one. I actually got it from gatekeeper.dec.com:/pub/comp.sources.misc
(I think - definitely gatekeeper, though). Anyway, Would someone
please lend a guy a hand? I compiled 4.003 and tried using undump
this way:

     undump ipb.exe perl core

	    new-a.out a.out core

The script is ipb - compiled with the -u switch to produce core. Last
time it zapped my perl binary and dump the contents (at least,
partially) into ipb.exe. In any case, NONE of my "undumped" cores
have ever worked. :(

There is a compressed tarchive on convex.com of the latest
undump I have. It's in undump.tar.Z if you want it.
Bare in mind that I myself use the unexec() method.

What is the unexec() method, and could you provide an internet
address for convex.com?

Thanks,

I get this file from convex.com [130.168.1.1] (for the guy who
asks about the numeric address) and it works fine with my perl
  scripts in a VAX running Ultrix-32 3.0 and perl-4.003. I'm not
using the unexec() method, I just run: (1) perl -u my_perl_script,
  (2) undump my_exe_file perl core. And done!
