I found that the problem I was having with cpp was in fact that it is better to use /lib/cpp instead of the cppstdin script that Configure cooked up (cat; cc -E; rm). Substituting that, all tests passed except op/groups.t That test passes when run as a given user, but not when run via "sudo".
