[comp.lang.perl] help wanted using perl to connect to a serial port

ramsey@NPIRS.Purdue.EDU (Ed Ramsey) (06/13/91)

I have several serial lines from our SparcStation 2 to our mainframe
protocol converter that I want to make available to our users from the
internet. I want a way for a user to log in to a special user id that
will check if any of these lines are free, and if they are, make the
connection and get out of the way (with perhaps a special break char),
or tell the user that they are busy and to try again. I might have to
provide some options so I can do some 3270 keyboard translation, etc...

Has anyone done anything like this in perl? I'm not sure I understand
all the issues involved, and I don't have much time to get this
implemented and would appreciate any help others can provide.

Thanks!
