Tim said, if I recall, > something like ``the god of the Jewish and Christian scriptures > is a cruel, sadistic sonofabitch and I would rather go to hell > (if hell there is) proudly than worship the monster.'' BLKTRAN was one the *few* things posted to net.jokes that actually contains humor. Don't get me wrong, I also enjoy most of the religious oriented jokes, even though they poke fun at my beliefs. If you can't laugh at yourself, you're going to have problems. As far as Tim's views, I consider the source. After awhile, I just started 'n'-ing anything that said unc!tim in the header. (and in extreme cases, unsubscribing) I have better things to do than waste my time reading his ravings. Some people enjoyed reading his articles. It's sad that censorship has reared it's ugly head once again (remember Denver?). Who was it that said, "I don't agree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." ? -- _____ /_____\ That auto-crossing beagle, /_______\ Snoopy |___| BMWCCA, Windy City Chapter ____|___|_____ ihnp4!ihuxl!seifert

I, for one, have only been on the net for about a year, and sporadically at that. Could some interested individuals *mail* me their recollections of censorship cases, preferrably with the articles involved or at least references? Sufficient interest will generate a summary posting. eric -- from the gang down at... 38.37.45 N 90.12.22 W ..!ihnp4!afinitc!{gang|wucs!gang}!eric I stand corrected but indifferent.

> > If Tim had posted the infamous BLKTRAN ... ... > So you're saying that it's perfectly allright to insult the Lord, > but not allright to tell a joke? It's not a matter of whether it's "alright" for a person to do this or that. If a person is being punished for something, it's only fair that he be informed of the reason for the punishment. It *does* seem, from what I've seen and heard (which is, admittedly, not the entire story), that the charges against Tim were never explicitly stated, and that new charges kept materializing as Tim refuted old ones. Whether or not we agree with Tim's world-view, it seems plain that he was treated unfairly. -- Saumya Debray, SUNY at Stony Brook uucp: {cbosgd, decvax, ihnp4, mcvax, cmcl2}!philabs \ {amd70, akgua, decwrl, utzoo}!allegra > !sbcs!debray {teklabs, hp-pcd, metheus}!ogcvax / CSNet: debray@suny-sbcs@CSNet-Relay
