Welcome to soc.religion.islam! This is a moderated group created to provide a forum for meaningful discussion about topics relevant to Islam. The reason for moderation is to avoid flamefests, abuse and bigotry and to ensure a reasonably high standard of articles. The moderators will use the criteria given below, in order to accept or reject articles for soc.religion.islam: 1) *Everybody*, regardless of their religion, is welcome to contribute to soc.religion.islam. 2) Articles should be relevant to Islam. 3) Articles critical of Islam as well as those sympathetic to Islam, are invited. However, the moderators will require that *both* kinds of articles be at least somewhat reasonable or somewhat rational or somewhat plausible. 4) Articles having political content MUST be relevant to Islam. (this is a corollary of (2) but deserves to be stated again). For example, almost all the articles in talk.politics.mideast would be disqualified under this criterion. 5) Flames, abuse, and bigotry are not acceptable in this group. 6) Moderators reserve the right to end the discussion on a certain subject after it has gone on for a reasonably long time, and no further light is being shed on the subject matter. 7) Moderators should give a reason for rejecting an article. The moderators for soc.religion.islam are: [a] Naim Abdullah [naim@eecs.nwu.edu] [b] Behnam Sadeghi [sadeghi@oxy.edu] [c] Shari VanderSpek [shari@wpi.bitnet] In order to submit an article to soc.religion.islam, please MAIL your article to "islam@ncar.ucar.edu". It will be randomly routed to one of the three moderators for this group. As we gain more experience with this group, the moderators would be glad to hear suggestions from everybody on how this group can be improved. However to avoid meta-discussion as much as possible, please MAIL your suggestions rather than posting them.
