Significance of Ramadhan (9th month of the Islamic calendar) 1. The month of fasting and renewal. Fasting is one of the 5 pillars of Islam. 2. In this month the Holy Quran was revealed. 3. The Battle of Badr took place in this month where Allah gave victory to the Muslims. Allah Taala calls this battle in the Holy Quran, "Yawm al-Furqan"(Day of Criterion) which means the day which Truth triumphed and Falsehood was subdued and vanquished. 4. Our dear Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) said: "when Ramadhan approaches, the gates of Heaven are thrown open, the gates of Hell are closed and Satan and rebellious Jinns are chained." "Ramadhan is three parts. The first part of Ramadhan is Allah's Mercy, the middle part His Forgiveness, the last part His salvation and release from the fiere of Hell." " if one does not give up speaking falsehood and acting by it, Allah does not require him to give up eating and drinking." "Many are the people who fast but who gain nothing from their fast except hunger and thirst; and many are those who stand paraying all night but gain nothing except sleeplessness." "Every good deed of a man is garanted manifold, increased ten to seven hundred times. But says Allah Taala: Fasting is an exemption; it is exclusively for Me." and I reward for it as much as I wish." May Allah bless us with success in this month and forgive our sins.
