[soc.religion.islam] WHEN IS EID DAY?

skhan@uwovax.uwo.ca (04/16/91)

Well, as you may know that the new moon will occur
at 3:3p (EDT) on April 14, 1991, and it won't be
visibleuntil it is about 24 hours old. So, the
possibility of having EID on Monday is ruled out.

Please note that the Jews month starts with the
occurance (birth time) of the new moon but a
new moon is not a crescent. Islamic month
starts only after observing he new moon.
Please don't be confused or misleded by the
traditional false claims of moonsighting before
it is a crescent. One rule of moonsighting is
that if you can see the moon somewhere on the earth
people to the WEST of you must see it as there the
moon will be older and brighter. Also note moon is
not a misterious body that some special people will
be able to see it. If it is visible, NOT one or two
special persons will see it, but many (who try) would
see it. Do not believe one New Yorker or Chicagonian's
claim through some Islamic `refinement' while none in
the WEST of them (upto California) can see it with
sky being clear and visibility being good.

Worshiping on proper time is as important as the
worshiping itself.

With thanks and best wishes.

Please help me understand this; what sura or haddith are you basing this
on?
