[soc.religion.islam] Pacifica Radio program on Islam

bes@nntp-server.caltech.edu (Behnam Sadeghi) (04/18/91)

Assalamu alaikum (Greetings of peace),

I was going to limit the distribution of this article to California (as
I have done in similar situations in the past). But I decided that it would
be interesting for folks in other places too.

1) This Thursday, public radio station KPFK, Pacifica Radio, 90.7 on the
FM dial, airs the 3rd part of its program on Islam. The program is hosted
by brother Nuri Mohammad and runs from about 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm. It features
speeches, interviews, a panel member discussion, and open phones. Among the
guests are Dr. Fathi Osman, Siddiqi, and others.

**NOTE:**
Let me add that such programs are produced by volunteer Muslims.
Muslims in other U.S. states where Pacifica Radio exists can (and must):
1) Encourage these stations to start/increase programs on Islam,
OR 2) volenteer your efforts, AND definitely 3) support such programs
by "subscribing" to these stations.

In Los Angeles, KPFK offers free summer internships in the field of radio
production to minority populations. That's how Islamic programs got started
here. I suspect similar opportuinities exist in other Pacifia stations in
the U.S. As it is right now, more gays and lesbians have volenteered to
produce programs for their cause than Muslims have! People from the country
of Belize (sp?) have a regular program on KPFK (which Muslims still don't).
Don't tell me there are more Belizeans (spelling?) in America than there are
Muslims. So where are the Muslims?!!! Where are they? Tel me: Where?!

2) If you live near Pasadena, there's a celebration on occasion of the
Eid al-Fitr (Commemoration of the holy month of Ramadan) in Jackie
Robinson Park Saturday. It runs from 9 am to about 5 pm. It
features talks, food, sports, etc. If you need directions for getting there,
send me Email.

Regards,
Behnam (bes@tybalt.caltech.edu)

P.S. If Craig is reading this, please send me a message. I deleted your
Email by mistake and I don't remember your address. Thanks.
