Assalamu alaikum brothers and sisters:
It is helpful to have a translation of the Holy Qur'an on-line but we have
to take these next few points in consideration when when it to comes to
translations of the Holy Qur'an:
First: Does anyone know any info on the Mr. M. H. Shakir ? what are his
credentials? BTW, Mr. Yusif Ali's translation is the most used one.
Second: Many tried to translate or rewrite the Holy Qur'an to insert their
own ideas and thoughts - This is not a judgment on the on-line Qur'an-.
Third: What kind of translation is it? .. straight translation for the words
or translation of the meaning or .. etc.
Fourth: Has any Islamic Organization approve the translation? There an
international Islamic Organization which examine books to verfy information.
Maybe we should call ISNA here in the US to see if they have any input on
translation.
Fifth: We have to understand that any translation no matter how good it is
done is just a translation and it is not to substitute the Qur'an in Arabic.
The Translations are to give an idea about the subjects of the versus.
Sixth: As many of you know that Arabic people refer to The Holy Qur'an when
disputing a language -grammar .. etc- problem. therefore having English to
translate The Holy Qur'an is hardly fair.
Seventh: The Holy Qur'an is one of the miracles that ALLAH gave to the Prophet
(Salla ALLAH alayeh wa salam) and actually ALLAH challenge the doubters to
come up with a book like it.
