[soc.religion.islam] Testimony and women's rights in the Qur'an

paul@kuhub.cc.ukans.edu (06/25/91)

2:282 advises the "one man and two women" witnesses in place of two
men for for contracts regarding "credit".

However, for wills (bequests), no specification of gender is made.
(5:106, Royal Egyptian edition).

For witnesses regarding adultery, four witnesses, no gender specified,
are advised. (24:4)

To extend, then, the "two women for one man" rule for all testimony,
would seem "irregular" with regards to the Qur'an.
