Okay, I'm all for connectivity and getting everybody on the net, etc. etc. but things are getting out of hand. There appears to be some accidental posting of personal mail to this newsgroup - whether this is due to errors on the part of the posters or some glitch in the feed, I don't know. The rules for posting on the Fido network seem to be a little more lax than what passes for the norm on Usenet. Fortunately, this group is small enough to tolerate this kind of abuse, but the noise level is getting a little high, at least for me. I'm all for keeping the Fido people connected here, but it appears that some moderation by whomever is providing the link might be in order. Thanks. -- John Bunda * bunda@cs.utexas.edu * {uunet,harvard}!cs.utexas.edu!bunda

At this time articles posted to the Fidonet SKYDIVE echo are automatically posted to rec.skydiving. Articles posted to rec.skydiving are manually posted to the Fidonet echo. (by me) Perhaps what would be better would be to let the Fido people know what accepted "standards" are in Internet news groups.

I agree, that the integration of "Fido" into the group was a great idea, but with presumption that the postings were going to be a little more structured than what I have seen here lately. -- Chris England A-11215 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Brock Control Systems, Inc. | SF rule #161: Remember that your weapon was Technical Support | made by the lowest bidder! tel: +800 444 3070 |

Well, except that it seems unfair to impose USENET standards on Fido. A different ethic exists on that net, and who are we to dictate to them, just because someone built a bridge? Reminds me of people who build houses next to the airport, then complain about the noise. Plus, since new people are turning up all the time, the only way to get the "rules" known is a periodic posting of fascist-sounding notice, like they seem to have to do in many usenet groups already. Seems like overkill, even if you could defend it as appropriate. In any event, I do think that automatically feeding *everything* from Fido didn't turn out to be such a hot idea after all. -- John Bunda * bunda@cs.utexas.edu * {uunet,harvard}!cs.utexas.edu!bunda
