I was describing an article from the net to someone who smirked at the
gossipy sound of it. So I tried to explain usenet... :-)
And then I asked myself, why do I (and so many others) love to read
alt.romance, soc.singles, soc.couples, alt.sex? Are we lonely? Do we
need to hear intimate details from other people who are somewhat like
ourselves because we lack enough intimate contact in our lives?
For me, the answer seems to be "yes."
I'm not miserable; I love my wife and my friends. But I think I spend
too much time staring at a tube and talking tech at lunch and
meetings.
