We are currently running VMS 5.1-1, with NO DECwindows at all (we do not have any devices capable of supporting DECwindows). I have heard that as of VMS 5.2 and 5.3 that DECwindows is now installed by default. If we do nothing but install VMS 5.3 (do not tailor DECwindows off) what are the effects going to be? Are we going to lose disk space (how much), are new detached processes started, and if so how much of a performance hit will they be? -- Seton Droppers -- "Anything that I say is my opinion and not my employer's." I forget the exact numbers but it can be pretty hefty. All of VMS V5.3 and DECwindows leaves about 50000 blocks free on an RD54. The installation guide does say how much disk space is required for DECwindows - as does the installation procedure. If you don't start DECwindows (in V5.2 you have to take action to keep it from starting - it is documented in the template SYSTARTUP_V5 provided) there are no detached process started. >much of a performance hit will they be? >-- >Seton Droppers -- "Anything that I say is my opinion and not my employer's." >Public Broadcasting Service, 1320 Braddock Pl.
