Hi there.. I would very much like to find some kind of compress/uncompress routines (note I said routines, and not programs, because I want to call them from within a C program, without forking a child to call up another process). I need these because I use Connection Machines fairly frequently. Much of the time, I'm using them remotely; I wrote some code to send images through a socket to my Sun for display. While this is tolerable on a local network, it's very nasty to do over any distance. Compressing/uncompressing the data would really help me out, in cases where the time saved in transferring the data is more than the time to compress/uncompress it. I don't really have time to learn the theory and write my own routines, unfortunately. So any pointers to something ready-to-use would be much appreciated. -- Dave Hiebeler / Computer Science Dept. / Amos Eaton Bldg. / Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute / Troy, NY 12180-3590 USA Internet (preferred): hiebeler@turing.cs.rpi.edu Bitnet: userF3JL@rpitsmts
