[net.columbia] Cable Co. adds Shuttle feed

djw@lanl.ARPA (10/31/84)

Because of the discussion on the net, I called the local cable co. and
asked if they would put this stuff on the Public Access Channel when
the shuttle was up and nothing else was on the PAC. After about
two hours on the phone, they said they'll get back with me. They
made the front page of the local paper when they announced their
decision. I watched a lot of the live coverage last launch and
expect to watch more this time. The local cable company wrote & got
permission and everything. They didn't realize it was available.

A side benefit was that Scientific Atlanta had just given the
local cable company a free antenna ( about 12 foot) and the owners
were about to give it to another subsidiary in another area. Because
the NASA feed was on a satellite that isn't normally watched by the
cable company they would have had to get another dish.

Sufficeth to say, the owner finally called me back and thanked me,
he reported that he'd had a very positive response to this change.
He was really happy to do this for us.
