[alt.sources.wanted] 9-track tape manipulation software needed

de5@ornl.gov (Dave Sill) (04/10/91)

I need software that:

    o runs/compiles on SPARCstations under SunOS 4.1
o can access an HP 9-track tape drive (SCSI)
o is either free or commercial
o reads and writes tapes in these formats:
          -IBM SL (EBCDIC)
          -IBM NL (EBCDIC)
          -BCD
          -ANSI
with various block and record sizes
o has a decent user interface

Yes, I know dd does EBCDIC. Yes, I know about ansitape. And, yes, I
know I could hack up some scripts that would do the job, but I'd
rather avoid it if possible. I don't know the details of these
formats, and I've got better things to do than reinvent wheels.

Surely somebody's handling IBMish tapes on a Sun or UNIX box.

Please respond by e-mail. Thanks in advance.
