[alt.sources.wanted] QUERY: MSDOS IP-router + ISO-bridge + DECNET-bridge

martin@udac.uu.se (Martin Wendel) (04/11/91)

I'm looking for a cheap, preferably MSDOS, IP-router kit that will
bridge DECNET and OSI.

The problem is: we currently have a class B network with a subnet mask
of 255.255.252.0, that is a maximum number of 1024 hosts on each subnet.
This configuration was chosen due to lack of routers (and money). It also
reduced the number of subnets to 64, and we are soon running out of subnets.
Therefore we are contemplating a change to eight bits of subnet needing to
be done in the near future.

Most LAN's are primarily running IP traffic but also run some DECNET and
OSI traffic. On large and heaviy loaded segments we are considering
CISCO routers but on smaller segments with few hosts and low load CISCO
is not cost efficient. At least not if there exists a MSDOS alternative.

I've heard of a program called PCroute (or similar). Would this PCroute
route IP and bridge DECNET and OSI? If not, is there any other that would?

Any replies are apreciated.
