I'm trying to put together a list of public domain (shareware, FSFware...) software that has been ported (or is about to be ported) to 88k boxes. My goal is to maintain such a list and make it available through this newsgroup. Please, send me information regarding a) name and version of package (e.g., GNU Emacs 1.18.5), b) name and version of compiler used to compile the package (GNU C 1.37.6), c) 88k box brand name and OS name and version (e.g., DG AViiON under DG/UX 4.20.02), d) possible new features or limitations. And, of course e) Internet address, f) original author, g) port author, and h) legal constraints. Mail the information directly to me [ja%fctunl.rccn.pt@cunyvm.cuny.edu] and I'll later post the full list. To get things moving, here is the list I am aware of: -- GNU stuff including GCC 1.37.6, g++ 1.37.1.3 (beta), Emacs, bash, -- bison, gawk, ... pretty much everything except for Flex. CTeX, CWeb, -- ... SpiderWEB (soon!). SB Prolog, C Prolog, and SICSTUS Prolog -- (soon!), Austin Kyotto Common Lisp, Icon 8.0, p2c. -- Software I know is being ported: CAP (and KIP), ET++, -- Berkeley BSD 4.3! -- Things I would like to see ported: Standard ML Jose Alegria Data General EuroACE European Competence Center in Academic Computing Environments Est. Before *flames* start let me clarify that GNU stuff (and SB Prolog for that matter) ARE NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN. They are what I call FSFware a term I have just coined for Free Software Foundation type of terms. -- --- Jose A. S. They probably won't have our BSD port listed, though, since we're breaking the 88 Open standards. We're staying with Berkeley formats in everything we do. Devon

The 88OPEN catalog do not cover the kind of software I'm talking about. It ONLY considers commercial products. What I want is to produce a "similar" document with NON COMMERCIAL software (PD, shareware, FSFware,..) which the (mostly the technical) 88k user community think are worthwhile having ported. In this category we have things like CTeX/LaTeX, GNU stuff (Emacs, C, g++, bash, bison, flex, ...), different compilers (Icon, AKCL, SB Prolog, ...), etc. -- --- Jose A. S.
