Beta Version of the SAS System for AViiON available in September. After I posted that announcement, I got mail from several people asking what type of software the SAS System is... Well, it is a very diverse and powerful system and is somewhat difficult to explain in a few lines. But, here goes... Yes, the SAS System has it's roots in statistics, but it is much more than that now. It has been called a 4GL, an application development system, a data management system, and so on. There are 4 conceptual parts: Data access, management, analysis and presentation. You can build your own fill-in-the-blank screens, build menus, do graphics (even 3D rotating graphs), report writing and more. There is project management, statistical Quality Control, Econometric Time Series forcasting, Interactive Matrix Language, and more. I'm sure the marketing types could do a better job of describing the software. If you are interested in the beta or want a better explanation of the software, contact Brenda Hodge (919) 677-8000 extension 6775. And thanks to the folks who sent mail. -- Darrell Massengill Manager of Host Development SAS Institute Inc. massengi@unx.sas.com (919) 677-8000 x7685 SAS Campus Dr, Cary, NC
