The space shuttle Atlantis arrived at KSC today, and workers began unmounting it from its jumbo jet host. It will be towed to the OFP for preparation for its maiden voyage this year. Atlantis is the first shuttle capable of launching the new liquid-fueled Centaur upper stage, designed to lift heavy payloads into geosynchronous orbits and launch payloads into deep space trajectories. Currently slated for Centaur launch from the shuttle are the Galileo project to Jupiter and a satellite that will orbit the sun's poles.
