REFR: Nikkei Sangyo Shimbun/April 3, 1991, Wednesday/page 7 On April 3rd, Nihon Unisys, Ltd. began to market the "S8400 Series" of RISC EWSs (engineering workstations). The EWSs use "MC88100" and "MC88200" MPUs. The "S8421" model uses 25 MHz versions of the MPUs and has a peak processing speed of 33 MIPS. The "S8431" model uses 33 MHz versions of the MPUs and has a peak processing speed of 44 MIPS. Both EWSs have 64 kB cache memories, can use up to 64 MB of memory, and can be equipped with up to 1.6 GB of disc storage. The EWSs use an operating system which is based on the UNIX System V software and has additional Japanese language, networking, and system management functions. The new EWSs are priced from 4.9 million yen. Nihon Unisys will begin to ship the EWSs at the end of the month.
