[ut.chinese] how to become a utchinese :-)

songw@csri.toronto.edu (Wenyi Song) (02/08/90)

Recently, some people send their requests to utchinese@csri, asking
to be enlisted in utchinese. In response to the suggestion made by Chris, I
would like to point out that the right address for such requests is

		----------------------------------
		utchinese-request@csri.utoronto.ca
		----------------------------------

The difference of these two addresses is that the former is sort of
a broadcasting station. Mail sent to this address will be AUTOMATICALLY sent
to all people in the utchinese mailing list and to ut.chinese, a local news-
group, while mail sent to the latter address is received ONLY by the person
who is responsible for maintaining the mailing list.

Once a message reaches the former address, even the caretaker of the
mailing list cannot keep it from propagating to all recicpients(Sorry, Chris,
:-). Such messages waste not only some valuable computing resources, but also
many netters' invaluable time.

So ... For everyone's sake, please send sign-on/sign-off messages to
the correct place:

		----------------------------------
		utchinese-request@csri.utoronto.ca
		----------------------------------

Note: The following message was sent to utchinese early this morning.
For some unknown reason, it didn't show up at ut.chinese on csri.
So I am posting it directly this time. Sorry if anybody see this
      as a duplicate. --- Wenyi
