Well, I don't know if anyone out there cares, but here is the feedback I got from my request for Hercules monochrome support: One pleasant chap from Microsoft begged forgiveness, pleaded that even working ten hours a day, seven days a week, just isn't enough time to do all the work that needs to be done on OS/2. He states that Microsoft opted to go with what they thought would be the most popular displays, ega and vga. Sounds more like big blue might have made this decision. Another, also at Microsoft, cited my organization line, and suggested that Jet Propulsion Labs should pony up the bucks for an SDK. Last I heard, JPL doesn't subsidize my hobbies explicitly, even though they do indirectly by paying me a salary. That notwithstanding, his alternative was to just shell out the bucks for ega (would that it were so easy.) Another's fine suggestion, which I haven't tried yet, was to use CMD.EXE in place of the pmshell. All well and good, if it works, but my goal is, after all, to have PM. His feelings, are that if OS/2 was as open as it ought to be, that there would be support for every device ever hooked up to a pc, because the programmers out here in the world, would be writing for them. But it occures to me, isn't CMD.EXE only good in real mode, or has it been so long since I looked at OS/2 that I'm confusing it with the compatibility box shell. Well, maybe some kind soul out there will risk a copyright violation, and send me a copy of the device driver section of the SDK. I can probably get the display.dll taken apart enough to figure out what's in it, and see what I can do. mail to me, at K. Keithley P.O.
