Has anyone tried bringing up Microsoft's Window version of Word (using the run-time module of Windows) in the OS/2 DOS box? I'm interested in the package but would be reluctant to try it if I have to boot DOS to get it running. If you have had experience with this combination, please post a note. Forget it. I run a few Window's apps, but in order to get ANY speed out of them I reboot DOS. WordWin wants 640K AT LEAST, and giving it the little you end up with in the Box and no expanded besides will kill you. My advice is to run when DOS has total control over the machine, or twiddle your thumbs till WordPM. -- John Michelsen - via FidoNet node 1:140/22 UUCP: alberta!dvinci!weyr!387!508!John.Michelsen Internet: John.Michelsen@f508.n387.z1.FIDONET.ORG Standard Disclaimers Apply...

Yes you can run winword in the OS/2 1.2 DOS Box. Since the 1.2 DOS box does not provide expanded memory of any type, things are a little tight. Best for working on small things. However, there is probably some sort of upgrade protection available: buying Winword now probably means you can PM word for some inexpensive upgrade price when it's available. So, go for it. Of course, I am biased. Randy- (I speak only for me.)

I've done it and it works fine. It's a littleslow though (I' running on a Compaq-386/16. I suspect the reason for the slowness is that I make it run in64K, and I think it would really rather use some extended memory to speed things up. However, when I installed it I disabled the use of extended memory since I thought it would interfere with OS/2. By the way, if OS2 is Microsoft's idea of the OS for the "next 1000 great applications, why does it go ahead and put out Word for Windows before Word for PM?
