I am interested in doing C language development for OS/2 and the Presentation Manager. It seems that the best way to do this is to buy Microsoft C 5.1 and get some kind of Software Developers Kit (SDK) from Microsoft. Does anyone know about availability and pricing of these developers kits. If you use Microsoft 5.1 don't you have to do your actual development under DOS. I have seen plenty of good books on OS/2 and the Presentation Manager development in the bookstore so all I really need is a C compiler and the necessary library include files (I think). I have also heard that MS C 6.0 will not have support for Object Oriented Programming but will support OS/2. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks Todd Bradstrum

For those of you who are familiar with Turbo C, I believe JPI was started by some people who bailed out of Borland and started their own company. JPI has an 'environment' that is very similar to the Turbo C environment. It also generates code _a lot_ better than the Microsoft OS/2 SDK compiler (which isn't very tough). I haven't used it extensively but from what I have seen and used I can highly recommend it over the Microsoft compiler. Tim Henrion tim@banyan.com --or-- ...!bu.edu!banyan!tim

Talking about development, can anybody suggest a SERIOUS Fortran compiler, suitable for really large and complex product packages? We have released our CAD products under OS/2 with the Microsoft Fortran compiler, but to say that we are "not quite satisfied" with it as a *production* tool would be an understatement... thanks. -- Alex Martelli - Email: staff@cadlab.sublink.org, alex@am.sublink.org Phone: ++39 (51) 371099, ++39 (51) 250434; fax: ++39 (51) 366964
