[comp.os.os2] Editing Command prompt

mabdoor@cs.vu.nl (Doorn van MAB) (04/12/90)

Hello world!

I'm looking for a program to simplify editing while using the OS/2 command
prompt.

Normally the keys F1, F2 and F3 can be used to copy previous commands and
re-execute them. But it's not bloody likely.

Is there a program available to simplify this process?

I already have a program called DOSEDIT.COM (running in DOS-mode). When this
program is installed, you can use ARROW UP to insert previously entered
commands.

I'm looking for a program like this running in protected mode. Can someone
tell me if it is available and where I can get it.

Thanks,

Matthijs van Doorn

I don't know what version of OS/2 you're running but 1.2 has this feature as an installable option during setup.

If you're running release 1.2, then the RETRIEVE feature (optionally
added in at install time) allows you to do command editing using the
arror keys. Up-arrow moves you back in the command history, and left/right
arrows can be used to move around on the line then make changes as desired.

OS/2 1.2 adds a command line editor feature keeping a command
history similar to DOSEDIT by setting KEYS=ON in the config.sys.

The installer offers this option at install time.

Check out the MKS Korn Shell. Command line editing is done using
either a VI or EMACS command subset.
