Hi ! I recently downloaded the ScreenBlank utility posted in comp.binaries.os2. On my machine (IBM Model 80, 2 MB, 8514/A graphics, IBM OS/2 1.1 EE) ScreenBlank shows the habit that, if time to clear the screen by popping up, after it cleared the screen, the original screen is quickly build up again. After the time out occurs again, the same as above happens, and so a third time, then it really is blank!! No - I am sure I haven't touched my keyboard or the mouse. I took hands off my keyboard and mouse and watched (time out set for 1 minute) and the above happens. The error is fully reproducable! Also, I would like to encourage the author of ScreenBlank to enhance this thing a little : On XWindows, you can see Fractals or Conway's Life (on VAXes and SUNs) when the screen is cleared - for lock e.g.). Could you write this tiny little code into ScreenBlank....??? That would be so nice. Thanks alot! I've fixed them, and will post a new version soon (after finishing a couple of other changes). >Also, I would like to encourage the author of ScreenBlank >to enhance this thing a little : On XWindows, you can >see Fractals or Conway's Life (on VAXes and SUNs) when >the screen is cleared - for lock e.g.). It currently clears the screen with a VioPopup, which doesn't allow any kind of graphic display. I'm experimenting with using a PM window, but there are some problems then with getting it to return to the correct session after you touch a key. If I can resolve this, a future version may have some other options for the display. If somebody posts me (public domain) C code it is more likely than if I have to go figure out fractals etc. myself. (I like the random moving lines display I've seen on other machines personally.) Interestingly enough, this happens only when the PM Screengroup is visible and the machine has been up and running for some time, i.e. it doesn't usually happen immediately after IPL. >Also, I would like to encourage the author of ScreenBlank >to enhance this thing a little : On XWindows, you can >see Fractals or Conway's Life (on VAXes and SUNs) when >the screen is cleared - for lock e.g.). >Could you write this tiny little code into ScreenBlank....??? >That would be so nice. Yup, something like that would please us UN*X-spoiled brats a lot. I, too, am in favor of putting such code into a screenblanker. Maybe Life using tiny little IBM "OS/2"-Logos would be appropriate. And you might even be able to sell it to IBM for use at computer shows :-) ... > [ridiculously long signature deleted] Other than that, I like the Screenblanker very much.
