Here's a posting from an internal IBM forum that the author has given permission to post outside IBM. (Usually these conferences are strictly IBM internal use only.) He's one of the actual developers of OS/2 2.0 and the guy responsible for the Beta BBS. Legend: EEP = Early Experience Program (similar but not quite Beta program) Boca: The IBM site where OS/2 2.0 is being developed ISV = Internal (... something, I can't remember) ----- OS2ARENA FORUM appended at 02:03:53 on 91/04/30 GMT (by ANDRESS at BCRVMPC1) Subject: Customer support - and OS/2 Beta 'Internal Only' Ref: Append at 13:51:12 on 91/04/29 GMT (by V$I00084 at PKEDVM7) Ref: And MANY MANY others... There is NO beta "cancellation"! We are meeting this week with folks from M&S to finalize plans. I expect you will see an EEP to Customers - in the order of THOUSANDS!! The only thing that has happened recently, is that the code has been removed (for the moment) from the Atlanta BBS. I won't go into WHY it was removed (or even WHY it was placed there in the first place) - that subject is being worked by a LOT of other people (thank goodness!). I would ask that we refrain from further speculation on that subject. Such speculation will NOT HELP, and may even HURT the situation. The facts are: 1. We (IBM, Frank & Co., the Boca Programming Center, etc.) have NOT cancelled ANY beta test plans. 2. The internal "ANY interested IBM'er beta test program" continues to grow. (Now over 2600!!) 3. There WILL be an EEP for interested customers - as I said above. 4. We (the Boca Technical Interface Group) are shipping (and supporting) OS/2 beta code to 5 times the number of ISV's than we did in previous releases, and there is continuing pressure to increase that number! 5. We are working on other programs to get the code to DAP members, and to other DOS application programmers for development and test. I hope that some of the above items will prove that IBM, and the Boca Programming Center is indeed committed to OS/2. Please, let's not let one situation, get blown out of all proportion. Please forgive me, if the above seems like 'preaching'. It's just that from 'my side of the reader', (even with the recent BBS situation) it still seems that this is "NOT my fathers IBM" :-) Keep the faith... Frank Andress BPC Technical Interface Group Boca Raton Fl. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Before anyone asks, I'm not going to mention the actual # of the BBS until the OS/2 2.0 Beta code gets back online. Please don't mail me asking for it. -- NOTICE: Due to the complexity of nearly all topics, the opinions expressed above are in continual process of formation and may be changed without notice.
